We are spearheading the global engine market as the world's largest builder of marine and stationary engines.
The Engine & Machinery Business Unit of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is the world’s top supplier of marine and stationary engines. Since the production of our first low-speed engine in 1979, we have been leading the marine engine market with outstanding technological prowess and quality. In line with the global shift toward eco-friendliness, we are focusing our efforts on securing decarbonization technologies to address climate change.
The Engine & Machinery Business Unit produces two-stroke low-speed engines for MAN and WinGD, as well as the HiMSEN engine—our proprietary four-stroke medium-speed engine. We also supply eco-friendly products such as SCR. As Korea’s only independently developed medium-speed engine, the HiMSEN engine has earned strong recognition in the global market for its durability and cost-efficiency. We recently expanded our engine line-up to run on LNG, methanol, and ammonia, and are actively developing hydrogen engines.
We have also significantly contributed to the stable supply of power by installing and suppling stationary generator engines in various regions around the world with a focus on the HiMSEN engine. Amid ongoing attention from customers, the HiMSEN engine has proven its durability and quality even with stationary generation equipment, which is operated under harsher conditions compared to marine engines.
In response to the growing demand for eco-friendly energy, our stationary power generation business is building hybrid systems that integrate LNG DF (dual-fuel) engines with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. We are also pursuing a hydrogen-based power supply project, with hydrogen gaining traction as a next-generation fuel.

Main Products
Low-speed Engine

Characteristics
- Number one share in the machinery market Our low-speed engines hold the top share in the machinery market and are supplied for marine propulsion and power generation. We account for one-third of the world’s low-speed engine supply.
- Over 200 million horsepower in cumulative production Since producing our first engine in 1979, we have surpassed 200 million horsepower in cumulative low-speed engine production as of March 2023—the fastest achievement of its kind in the world. Low-speed engines are a key piece of equipment accounting for one-tenth of the total value of a ship.
Medium-speed engine (HiMSEN engine)

Characteristics
- Proprietary The engine has been recognized as one of Korea’s Top 10 New Technologies and a World Class Product. It is used for marine propulsion, power generation, and land-based applications.
- 15,000 units produced The first engine was produced in September 2001, and 15,000 units have been produced as of January 2024.
- World class product recognition The engine has been designated as one of “Korea’s Top 10 New Technologies” and as a “World Class Product,” and is used for marine propulsion, power generation, and land-based purposes.
Propeller & Shaft

Characteristics
- 200 propellers are produced annually Marine propellers are typically made of manganese bronze or nickel-aluminum bronze, and take approximately 150 days to produce. We have an annual production capacity of around 200 propellers and we supply our subsidiaries as well as other Korean shipyards.
- World market share of around 20% We enjoy a share of around 20% in the world marine propeller market.
SCR (NoNOx)

Characteristics
- Technology to reduce exhaust gas NOx emissions by 95% SCR is a technology that has been designed to meet Tier III limits and reduces exhaust gas NOx emissions by up to 95% through a chemical reaction process.
Land-Based Power Stations

Characteristics
- Stable supply of power Land-based power stations offer a stable power supply without being restricted by time or place.
