Fostering entrepreneurship to carry on the creative legacy of our founder

Established in October 2011 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of Asan Chung Ju-yung, the founder of Hyundai, Asan Nanum Foundation is a public foundation that upholds the charitable ethos of our founder.

The Foundation engages in various support projects in all areas of society to foster entrepreneurship that carries on the creative legacy of Asan in our communities.
We aim to make a positive impact on society by nurturing people and institutions to drive change that creates a better world. Guided by our vision of “a world where if you believe it, you can achieve it,” we aspire to lay the groundwork for young entrepreneurs and social innovators to take on challenges, achieve growth, and share their successes.
To this end, we are involved in a variety of initiatives including a youth entrepreneurship promotion project, youth startup support project, social innovator growth project, and innovative ecosystem development project.

Fulfilling our social responsibility as the world's number one shipbuilder

In 2024, HD Hyundai established the “HD Hyundai Hope Foundation” to support bereaved families of workers who lost their lives in unexpected accidents at shipbuilding sites, and fulfill its social responsibility as the world’s number one shipbuilder. As Korea’s first scholarship foundation established for bereaved families affected by major shipyard accidents, the Foundation provides university tuition support for their children and plans to offer livelihood assistance to low-income families among the bereaved.

Chairman Kwon Oh-gap personally contributed KRW 100 million to establish the Foundation with the Group's three shipbuilding companies—HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai Mipo, and HD Hyundai Samho—also contributing funds. The Foundation has around five directors and most board members, including the chairperson, are independent to ensure fair and transparent operation. Highly skilled and reputable individuals from various sectors including industry professionals, social welfare specialists, and academics have been appointed as executives of the Foundation to be in charge of its operations.

It is our responsibility
to offer comfort to bereaved families
who have lost a parent or child in tragic accidents.
As a leading shipbuilder,
HD Hyundai must take the lead in this effort.
From a statement by HD Hyundai Chairman Kwon Oh-gap

Elevating lifestyles with
elegance and sophistication

The HD Arts Center opened its doors in 1998, increasing cultural accessibility in the Ulsan and Dong-gu areas by showcasing a wide range of high-class cultural and arts performances that are often difficult to access from the regions. Since its launch, the Center has attracted 60 performances and 45,000 patrons each year and has earned a reputation among world-renowned performers as a “stage worth returning to.”

The Center hosts international exhibitions each year and endeavors to popularize culture and the arts by implementing cultural promotion projects and mecenat projects, including the founding of the USP Chamber Orchestra, support for resident (sponsored) performance groups, and lobby concerts. It also operates a movie theater, bowling alley, climbing gym, and other sports facilities. It is breathing new life into the local community by offering a wide range of cultural activities including yoga, a GX room, and piano lessons.
The Center spans a total floor area of approximately 33,000 square meters, consisting of three buildings with five floors above ground and three basement levels, situated on an 8,200-square-meter site. The auditorium has a capacity of 1,000 seats and is equipped with state-of-the-art audio and lighting facilities, a revolving stage platform, side stage wagons, and an elevating orchestra platform, enabling it to accommodate performances of all genres including music recitals, plays, dance productions, and musicals.
Dedicated accessible seating and temporary seating are available in the premium seating area to improve ease of access for marginalized groups.

Social Infrastructure

United in giving
to grow as a community

We are fostering a culture of employee participation in volunteer activities through initiative such as organizing volunteer groups in each business unit, division, and department led by our dedicated social contribution team. We remain committed to acts of solidarity and ongoing involvement in our local communities.

Public Facilities
and Medical Services

We have established social infrastructure to boost the quality of life of local residents and offer everyday convenience by building the Hyundai Arts Park, Jeonha-dong Children’s Park, Myeongdeok Lake Park, Keunmaeul Reservoir Forest Park, Dongbu Library, and Daewanggyo Bridge inside Daewangam Park.
Ulsan University Hospital has been designated as a tertiary general hospital and plays a crucial role in the public health services of Ulsan, which does not have any national or public hospitals, while Myeongdeok Lake Park has become a favorite destination among locals.

Education and Scholarships

We are continuously expanding our investment in education to support the goals and dreams of the young people of Korea.
We currently support the operation of five schools under the school foundation Hyundai Academy—namely Hyundai Middle School and High School, Chungwoon Middle School and High School, and Hyundai Technical High School—as well as University of Ulsan and Ulsan College. Our scholarship programs and community learning environment improvement projects help youth at risk of missing out on education due to socioeconomic difficulties to continue their studies, through which we strive to contribute to talent development and the advancement of society.

Sports

We have built year-round grass soccer fields in Seobu, Gangdong, and Jeonha, along with a sports clubhouse, to contribute to the development of soccer in Ulsan, the promotion of domestic sports, and the enjoyment and leisure of the general public.
"Ulsan HD FC," which competes in the K League 1 (Korea’s professional soccer league), was founded in 1983. It won the K League 1 in 1996, 2005, 2022, 2023, and 2024 and the AFC Champions League in 2012 and 2020, and continues to scout and train talented players.
